You may have seen their video featured in KWOD’s top 10 music video contest, playing live on Good Day Sacramento, or more recently at Blue Cue, but local Sacramento Band Jackson Road is going where no band has gone before…a 100 foot mural on the side of Midtown’s popular eatery Jack’s Urban Eats (on the corner of 20th & Capitol).
In an effort to promotes their April 2 debut album premier, the band’s lead ax man, Ted Weldon, also a noted local artist, has been working on a mural touting the self-titled debut album since Monday and hopes to have it complete by Saturday morning.
Joe and I caught up with Ted last night to bring you a sneak peek
of the massive masterpeice. Seventy-five feet of it will be the words ‘Jackson Road’ with the album release info, and then about 25′ of it will be a graphic of the band (as seen to the right).
“We’re very excited about our self-titled debut album. It comprises our attitudes, work, and inspirations in our lives right now,” says Ted. “We’re ready to spread our sound to the four corners of the globe, and it’s our pleasure to kick it off right here in our hometown of Sacramento!!”
So if you think this mural is imaginative, artistic and brings a smile to your soul, wait until you hear their music! I first discovered these guys passing out their promo single CD on the corner of the MARRS building during the January Second Saturday. On my way into work that follwoing Monday, I popped in the CD to hear sounds of what they refer to as ”rock/alternative based” music that “ventures into acoustic rhythms and textures.” In translation - as one fan simply put it, “calm relaxed vocals (that’s) good on the ears.”
I encourage you to check them out for yourself! Their show is Wednesday, April 2 at Harlow’s and begins at 8:00 pm. Cover price is only $10 AND it gets you your very own Jackson Road debut album!
Joe and I hope to see you there!!! To listen to a preview of the band’s music, check out their MySpace page HERE.

Love this idea! Like I said the other night, I think this is the new ‘it’ way to advertise….they need to do it on the long blank side of the MARRS building next!
